Born to Late Sri Ramaiah and Srimati Anjanamma couple, Mr. R. Ashok was destined to be great ever since childhood. Even by the age when one becomes aware of one’s ambition and passion, he felt drawn towards RSS. After having graduated in Science at Vishweshwarapuram College in Bangalore where he was a Kabaddi champion, moreover a student leader, he rose gradually in the rungs of the ladder. Formal education and the self-taught principles over the formative years, he swung into active politics by joining the Bharathiya Janatha Party. His undeterring aim for justice and social welfare has had no compromises. So much so that during Emergency in India, he was imprisoned along with the BJP veteran Sri LK Advani, in Bangalore Central Jail.

The fact that he was elected twice unopposed as the President of BJP, Bangalore Urban District naturally stand as a testimony for his devotion to duty and social welfare and the public appreciation that his name and action had come to gain.  The later steps that he climbed up the administrative ladder only add proof to what had been said above. In the mid-term elections held in 1997 he got elected as a BJP candidate for the first time from the Uttarahalli assembly constituency, the largest in India with around 16 lakh voters on the list. He also contested from the same constituency thrice and won with the highest margin among the 224 assembly constituencies in Karnataka. As the Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the previous coalition government of the BJP and JD(S), he pioneered the induction of very sophisticated medical facilities never introduced before, in the govt. hospitals in Karnataka.  He brought in an awakening in the doctors employed in the govt. hospitals towards the importance of the application of their knowledge of medicine towards betterment of health and happiness.The ‘Madilu’ scheme implemented by him became quite popular soon after its launching and turned out to be a huge success.In this scheme, a kit provided under the scheme to the post – natal women contained soap, powder etc. enough to last 3 years and useful for the baby and also carried Rs 10,000/- in cash for the mother.

Not much is said, the list actually goes longer. In the assembly elections held in 2008, he contested from the Padmanabha Nagar constituency in Bangalore and won with the highest margin among the constituencies in Bangalore district and became very respected by his people as the Home Minister and Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge for Bangalore and Mandya districts. It is not surprising that he has made  good governance possible ever since he took oath on 12-07-12 as the Deputy CM in the present cabinet of Sri Jagadish Shettar.

ಸನ್ಮಾನ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಆರ್. ಅಶೋಕ್ ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ದಿ।। ರಾಮಯ್ಯ, ಇವರ ತಾಯಿ ಆಂಜನಮ್ಮ, ಇವರು ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದಲೂ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸ್ವಯಂ ಸೇವಕ ಸಂಘದ (RSS) ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರು. ಇವರು ಬಿಎಸ್ಸಿ ಪದವೀಧರರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಪುರ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕಾಲೇಜು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಜನೆಯ ಸಂಧರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ಕಬಡ್ಡಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಪಟು. ಇವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಾಯಕರಾಗಿ ಹಂತ ಹಂತವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದವರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮುಗಿದೊಡನೆ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನತಾ ಪಕ್ಷವನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ರಾಜಕಾರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದರು. ಹಿಂದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ತುರ್ತುಪರಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನತಾ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಯಕರಾದ ಸನ್ಮಾನ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಲಾಲಕೃಷ್ಣ ಅಡ್ವಾಣಿಯವರ ಜೊತೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಜೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನತಾ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಎರಡು ಭಾರಿಗೆ ಅವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆನಂತರ 1997ರ ಮಧ್ಯಂತರ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ವಿಧಾನ ಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾದ ಸುಮಾರು 16 ಲಕ್ಷ ಮತದಾರರಿರುವ ಉತ್ತರಹಳ್ಳಿ ವಿಧಾನ ಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನತಾ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಭಾರಿಗೆ ಜಯಗಳಿಸಿದರು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಮೂರು ಭಾರಿ ಇದೇ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿನ 224 ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮತಗಳ ಅಂತರದಿಂದ ಗೆಲುವು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರವಾದ ಬಿ.ಜೆ.ಪಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಜೆ.ಡಿ.(ಎಸ್) ಸಮ್ಮಿಶ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿ, ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ  ಹಿಂದೆಗಿಂತಲೂ ಅತಿ ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳು ದೊರೆಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿದ್ರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವೈದ್ಯರುಗಳು ಎಚ್ಚರಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಇವರು ಜಾರಿಗೆ ತಂದಂತಹ “ಮಡಿಲು” ಯೋಜನೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಣಂತಿಯರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವ ಕಿಟ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರುವರ್ಷಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಉಪಯೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವಂತಹ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಸೋಪು, ಪೌಡರ್, ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ರೂ. 10,000/- ಗಳ ಹಣವು ದೊರೆಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

ಇದೇ ಮೇ 2008 ರ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭನಗರ ಮತಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮತಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮತಗಳ ಅಂತರದಿಂದ ಜಯಶೀಲರಾಗಿ ಬಿ.ಜೆ.ಪಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೃಹ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಡ್ಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಉಸ್ತುವಾರಿ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಪಡೆದು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಮಂತ್ರಿಯೆನಿಸಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಶ್ರೀ ಜಗದೀಶ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟರ್ ರವರ ಸಚಿವ ಸಂಪುಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಾಗಿ ದಿನಾಂಕ 12-07-2012 ರಂದು ಪ್ರಮಾಣವಚನ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಆಡಳಿತ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
